How To Maintain Your Calendar

Managing your calendar is one of the most important factors to your continued success. It all begins in dating your first six shows, and staying within a 30-day period of time (three weeks is even better).

You will first need to decide how many shows a week you want to hold. If you only want to hold one show a week, open your calendar and mark "show" on the day or night you wish to book. If you want to hold two shows each week, decide which two days or evenings, then fill in the applicable dates in your calendar, and so on. When you have some idea of when you want to work, it’s much easier to book than just randomly filling in dates.

Always try to book within the next three weeks, unless your calendar is already full. The reason for that is if you book too far ahead, people have a tendency to cancel or they lose their excitement for the show. Keep in mind that the reason people book shows in the first place is because they had fun! They are excited about the products, enthusiastic about offering them to their friends; and they have the drive and desire to get free products themselves.  Additionally, you want to try to book your hostesses in close so that they too can take advantage of any current CH promotions.

When they book too far out,
their excitement begins to wane and they lose their desire to have their show. The show may not hold, and you will be in a situation of having to scramble to fill a hole in your calendar that is left by a cancelled show. So it’s really important to keep your hostesses within a three-week timeframe.

Before each show
you may wish to challenge yourself to "make my night equal three." Your goal should be to get three bookings from every show; however, when that does not happen, get on the phone the next day and make calls from your booking lead notebook. If you get two bookings from a show, get one more on the phone. If you get only one booking at a show, challenge yourself to secure two more by phone the next day. You should always want to "make my night equal three," which will result in an overflow of bookings and allow you to maintain your desired schedule of 3 shows a week.

If your goal is to hold two shows each and every week,
challenge yourself to "make your night equal two," and so on. That way you will never feel overwhelmed. It’s much easier to make one phone call than it is to make six.

Make it a habit each day to glance at your calendar.
Know where you stand, how many bookings you need, and always know your next two available dates to book. When you’re out and about, you’re more likely to be able to offer a date, without hesitation, and get someone to date on the spot.

Surveys have shown that
20 percent of our hostesses do move their dates or cancel, so to ensure calendar control, try "weave dating." If you want to consistently hold two shows a week, "weave" by booking two shows one week; three the next; two, three, two, three, etc. That way, if a show from the week with three shows has to reschedule, you will still have two shows left. This will still allow you to meet your monthly show goal of eight (or whatever your personal goal may be) and if you end up with an extra show, you’ll make some additional income!

Another helpful hint: When selecting dates for upcoming hostesses, if someone tells you that they can’t do it for three months, respond with: "I really would like to keep the scheduled bookings dated within three to four weeks in order to give Susie her credit, so why don’t I give you a call and we can select a date that’s convenient? Again, you’re not trying to fill a hole created by someone who really wanted to date farther out than the three-week timeframe.

It is also okay to say that you are not yet scheduling past 30 days because you don't yet know what commitments you will have with your family. That is one of the beautiful things about working with CH! You can make your own schedule. You can say "that is one of the things so great about being a Designer. I'm able to put my family first. Have you ever considered an opportunity like this?"

These suggestions will prove
helpful in maintaining your calendar and controlling your business . . . and your paycheck.
