with a "Pricing” Theme.
We will be playing a fun auction game and you will get a free gift just for
coming.

1. Wear a T-Shirt with a fun saying on it. $100
2. Bring something with the price tag still on it. $100
4. Bring an adult friend to the Party. $400
5. Bring an outside order. $2000
6. Bring a snack or dessert to share. $500
7. RSVP $100
8. Arrive on time. $100
9. Book your own Party. $5000
10. Take home a “No Obligation” Packet. $5000
Preparation:
Ask the Hostess to set up 3 chairs near my display. Guests are not allowed
to sit on them. They need to be clear for the contestants. When each Guest
arrives, introduce yourself and ask her name. If her name is Suzy for
example, write Sweet Suzy or Sensational Suzy etc.. Always us the first
letter of
their names to write the adjective. Give the Guest a name tag with her “new”
name on it. Give a name tag to your Hostess so she can play. Then write each
name on a small sheet of paper and put it in a Bean Pot.
Beginning the show:
Explain the rules. “Hi, Ladies, tonight you are in for a treat. We are going
to play "Your Name's" Home & Garden Party Pricing Game Show. Each one of you
is a potential contestant. How many of you have ever watched the Price Is
Right Game (usually everyone is the room raises her hand)? Well, if you’re a
little rusty, I will talk you through the whole game. Now, you all remember
that when a contestant is called up, she doesn’t walk up ‘mopey’ and
nonchalant, she goes, ‘Woo Hooo.’ She high fives everyone, jumping up and
down." (You need to do that so they know what you mean.) It really wakes
everyone up and sets the tone for the game. Tell your audience that all
catalogs must be closed and face up during this game.
Before you call the first contestant up tell the group “that there is a
Magic word tonight. The magic word is 'Party'. If at any time during the
presentation, you want to have me in your home and let’s face it ladies, who
wouldn’t want to have me in your home , (give auction money to the first
person who laughs and say to them, "I knew I made a friend tonight.") all
you have to do is yell out 'Party.' That means you actually are going to
have a party, and I’m going to give you $5000 in auction money, plus an
extra $1000 for being the first person”.
"O.K. Ladies, here we go. (Pull out a name from the bean pot.) Sweet Suzy,
come on down. You are the first contestant on "your name's" Home & Garden
Party Pricing Game Show. (Once she settles down and is seated in one of the
3 chairs, pull another name from the bean pot.) Terrific Terry, come on
down, you’re the next contestant on "your name's" Home & Garden Party
Pricing Game Show." Then call the final contestant and say the same thing.
Always say your first and last name, ie, Lorrie Hendron’s Home & Garden
Party Pricing Game Show so that if Guests want to reorder or book a Party in
the future, they will remember your name and will ask for you.
"Now, Ladies what does the audience do on the Price is Right when one of
those beauties brings out a fabulous product for the contestants to bid on?"
(Always have someone in the audience go OOOOHHH, AAAAHHH) and say,
“Exactly.”) So when you bring out a fabulous product to talk about, you're
not going to be able to go on until I hear the OOOOHHHHs and AAAHHHHs.
Next, pick up the fragrance lamp. Hold it just like one of those models does
on the Price is Right and wait for the OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs. If you don’t
hear it, put your hand to my ear like you can’t hear anything and then all
of a sudden the group starts laughing and going OOOOHHH, AAAAHHH. Then, give
them a big smile and begin telling them all about the fragrance lamp. When
you are finished, go to the first person who was called up to contestants’
row and say, “ 'Sweet Suzy,' you need to tell me the actual retail price of
this beautiful fragrance lamp without going over." Suzy then gives you a
bid. Then ask the next contestant and then the 3rd contestant. If they all
overbid, make an awful noise and tell them they all over bid. If one of them
gets it exactly right, say “Ding, ding, ding,
ding, Sweet Suzy you guessed the actual retail price of $50.00.
Congratulations, you get to come up to contestants’ floor.” If no one
guesses the actual price, the contestant with the closest bid without going
over gets to come up to contestants’ floor.
Hi-Lo Game
This contestant is going to play the Hi-Lo game. Take 4 items and tell the
audience about each. For example, you could pick a jar candle, the Chelsea
topper and base and a candle dazzler. Tell the audience about each item,
waiting in between for OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs. Then, tell Sweet Suzy that she
needs to put these items in order from highest to lowest. Watch as Suzy
arranges the items. If she is putting them in the wrong order, tell Suzy to
get help from the audience. Then turn to your audience and say, “Come on
audience, help Suzy out.” Gently guide Suzy to the right answer by saying
things like, “I think you should listen to the right half of the room or
“Kind Karen” sounds like she knows what she’s talking about. Anyway, after
Sweet Suzy is finished, go over each item, its price and congratulate her on
being a winner. I tell her that she can go back to contestants’ couch and
wait till she is called up for the “showcase showdown.”
Price of the Day game
Here is a new game to play instead of the Hi-Lo game in the event you have
done the Hi-Lo game a million times for the same group. It’s called the
“Price of the day game.” Guests will say “I never heard of that game
before”. (It’s not the exact name for one of the Price is Right games but
it is close. You don’t go into that with the guests, just tell them you
will talk them through it.). Tell the contestant that they are going to
play the “Price of the Day game”. Tell that that the price of the day is
“$22.00”. Then proceed to tell them about 3 products. The first one being
the “Straight from the Heart Pin”, the second being “the cool dip (in any
pattern), and the third item you tell about is the “Prestige Triple Server”.
Tell them that they need to pick the 2 items that cost $22.00. If they are
right they will be in the showcase showdown at the end of the show. Pick a
new name out of the bean pot. Call that contestant up. "Wild Wendy, come on
down. You are the next contestant on 'your name's' Home & Garden Party
Pricing Game Show."
"The next item up for bid is the Pumpkin and Snowman Reversible sign.
(Always check with the hostess to see which booking gift is her favorite so
if her favorite is the Prestige Seasonal Centerpiece then that is what you
talk about instead of the sign). (Wait for OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs). Tell
them all about the fabulous features, but then say, “This is a Hostess only
gift. The only way (insert Hostess’s name here) can get this special item is
by having two great friends or family help her out. But even though this
fabulous piece can’t be purchased, it does have a retail value and that is
the price you are going to bid on right now." Then get the bid from each
contestant. The one closest to the actual retail price without going over is
coming up to contestant's floor. Be sure to let the guests know that if 4
people book a show she is getting both “booking gifts”
Dice Game
Tell this contestant that she is going to play the dice game. Pick up a Bean
Pot, (wait for the OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs) and then explain why everyone in
the room will want a bean pot. After that, give the contestant two dice
(preferably different color dice). Tell her that "There are two digits in
the price of the bean pot. There are no numbers lower than one, but that one
of the numbers could be higher that 6." Have the contestant roll the first
die. If she rolls a 3 tell her that’s the first digit in the price of the
bean pot. "Congratulations!" If she does not roll a 3, ask her "Do you think
the first number in the price of the bean pot is higher or lower than the
number you rolled?" Again gently guide her if she does not have a clue.
Then, have her roll the second die. If she rolls a 3 again congratulate her
and tell her she can go back to contestants’ couch and she will be in the
showcase showdown. If she does not roll a 3, again ask her if she thinks the
second number in the price of the bean pot is higher or lower than the
number she rolled. Gently guide her to the right answer if necessary.
If she does not guess correctly no matter how hard you try to coax her, tell
her “because I’m the type of person you would want to have in your home, I’m
going to give you another chance on a different product”. Then proceed to
tell her about a “Print or any other item in your kit”, again suggestively
guide her as she tries to decide what the price is. Congratulate her on
being a winner.
Before you choose another name say “Oh I almost forgot, what’s the magic
word today? ( and someone will yell out “Party”, and give them $100 in
auction money). Don’t forget, just shout out party when you are ready to
host a show for 'hostess' and she will get her booking gift." If someone
shouts out "Party" because they really want to have a party, say "awesome,
you get $5000 in auction money plus another $1000 for being the first one."
Then turn to the hostess and say “Barbara, you only need one more to get
your Pumpkin and Snowman Reversible sign. Aren’t you excited?!" That is
usually when she steps in and says “Someone else better have a show. I
really want that sign”.
Pick a new name out of the bean pot. Call that contestant up. "Beautiful
Barbara, come on down, you’re the next contestant on 'your name's' Home &
Garden Party Pricing Game Show." Now show the contestants the Christmas
Treasures Santa . Tell them all about it, and ask them to guess the actual
retail price without going over. The one who guesses the closest without
going over comes up to contestant floor. (Be sure to tell them if they buy
a Christmas Treasures Santa, they can get another one to give as a gift for
only $15.00. Also explain that spending at least $55.00 on any items in the
catalog will also allow them to purchase the santa for only $15.00.
Dollar Bill Game
Give this contestant 10 one dollar bills. Tell her that you are going to
tell her about 3 items. She needs to guess that price of these items and
whatever she is off by in price, she needs to give that many dollar bills
back to you. She needs to have 1 dollar left in her hand to win the dollar
bill game. Tell her that none of the items is more than $15.00 in cost. Show
her the Happiness Candle (wait for OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs) then ask her what
she thinks the actual price is. If she guesses $10.00, round up and tell her
she needs to give you $3.00 back. Explain that this is one of our bonus buys
and with a $35 purchase; everyone can purchase it for only $7.75. Next show
her Bless This Home print (wait for OOOOHHHs and AAAAHHHs), tell her and the
audience its features and ask her to guess the actual retail price. She will
guess something. Whatever she is off by, she needs to give you that many
dollars back. Explain again, that this is one of our bonus buys and with a
$35 purchase; everyone can purchase it for only $7.75. Next tell everyone
about the Angel Trio Tealights Bonus Buy. By now, hopefully, she will guess
that it’s $7.75. If not, you will help her out by saying, "I wonder if there
is a pattern here." Tell her congratulations and that she will be in the
showcase showdown.
"O.K., Ladies, now it is time for the Showcase Showdown, but you know if
you’ve watched the Price is Right, before they duke it out in the Showcase
Showdown, there is a series of commercials. Well this game is the same way,
only I am only going to do one commercial. We are going to play the 'You can
do what I do commercial,' and that is where you can ask me anything you want
about doing my job. (Give out auction dollars during this.) The person with
the most money gets a 3 minute supply of chocolate. (You can give them a
chocolate bar.) They like that.
On to the Showcase Showdown
Bring all 3 winning contestants back up to Contestants’ Row. You want your
showcase story to be fun and quirky. Make up anything using the pieces you
have in your kit. Here is just a brief sample.
"O.k., Ladies, your showcase begins with these beautiful H&GP products to
entertain your friends and family with. One of Home and Garden Party’s
mission is to bring friends and family together and that is why you see some
many beautiful entertaining items in our catalog. This 6 piece Welcome Home
Serving Set” (Include the tray with it and call it the 6 piece because you
really need it sold as a unit) is the perfect set to serve vegetables,
fruits, or it’s also great for having 'taco night'. There is a place for
everything you could want on a taco. What’s also nice is that you can take
the sections out and put hot dips in them and they sit flat in your oven to
heat them up. The kids will also enjoy a fun 'Sundae bar' with this great
piece. Fill the sections with all kinds of delicious ice-cream toppings.
This
outstanding items could be yours (just figuratively, Ladies) if the price is
right."
Have them guess how much it would cost to get those items that you just
talked about.
"Wonderful Wendy, Give me your bid." Only give them a minute. "Whichever
contestant comes closest to the actual retail price is the Grand Prize
winner. She receives a jar candle from me."
After that, do the auction game with 3 additional “small” gifts. Auction off
those gifts and then the game is over.
